YouTuber ‘Flying Beast’ roasted for claiming ‘Havan’ saved lives during gas leak in Bhopal

Popular YouTuber Gaurav Taneja, also known as the Flying Beast, has drawn attention online after claiming that two families were unaffected by the Bhopal gas leak because they regularly perform Agnihotra Havan. Havan is a Hindu ritual where a fire is burned to pay homage to the gods. He also claimed that such a havan is a “natural antidote to pollution”. The Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984 is considered one of the worst industrial disasters in the world.

“Hinduism is a way of life based on science. On December 3, 1984, two families were left untouched by the Bhopal gas leak.

They regularly practiced अग्निहोत्र (हवन), which is a natural antidote to pollution.”

Netizens asked if there was any scientific data to support his claim. They also wanted to know the link between a gas leak and pollution.

“wtf logical is that?! It’s not “pollution”, it’s methyl cyanide gas! And if homas could purify toxic industrial waste, industries would hire priests instead of investing million in waste disposal and the government would regulate it!”

“Education is not equal to knowledge. So proven!”

“I’m a fan of @flyingbeast320, but seriously??? I think you’re an educated person again this…”

“I feel bad after learning so much about industrial disaster management in my engineering school. Learning a lot of case studies, how to avoid a disaster and also mitigation efforts. But all we needed, it was from a haven!!!”

In 2019, an article in The Lallantop reported that a Kushwaha family in Bhopal were unaffected by the gas leak that killed thousands because they were performing Agnihotra Yagna in their house. When people were dying of suffocation from inhaling poisonous methyl isocyanate gas, the family was busy in the havan. Part of the population now believes havan saved their lives, the report adds.
