Eko Youth Sports Association President Lateef Ojora Ogunfowora has announced that more than thirty club owners have expressed interest in taking part in the upcoming U-16 Aare Tomori Williams men’s and U-19 women’s football competition.
Ogunfowora said in a chat with Sports247 in Lagos that thirty club owners were interested in the competition and noted that only clubs with good character and football pedigree would be allowed to participate in the tournament sponsored by Aare Tomori Williams.
“Currently, more than thirty club owners have contacted us to obtain registration forms. Aare Tomori Williams Cup is a great competition that every club wants to participate in. Entry forms are on sale and all I know is that we can’t accommodate every club at the end of the day,” he said.
Ogunfowora, popularly known as Shevchenko, further explained that the competition will start in September, saying interested club owners have the opportunity to come and get their entry forms.
“We cannot stop the registration forms now because we want the men’s and women’s clubs from various locations in Lagos and ultimately we would reduce the registered teams to a significant number,” he said.
Regarding the prize money, Ogunfowora revealed that the donor of the cup had pledged a substantial sum of money to the winners.
According to him, the winners would go home with the sum of 600,000 Naira with a giant trophy, while the first and second runners-up would receive 400,000 Naira and 250,000 Naira respectively in the men’s category.
In the women’s category, the winners would receive N500,000 with a giant trophy, while second and third place would smile to the bank with the sum of N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.
