US Senate candidates from North Carolina have received more than $7 million from outside donors

0

More than $7.3 million of individual donations made in North Carolina’s U.S. Senate race came from out of state, according to documents filed by the Federal Election Commission.

  • More than three-quarters of that money went to Democrat Cheri Beasley’s campaign, and the rest went to Republican U.S. Representative Ted Budd.

Why is this important: All that outside money is a reminder of the importance of this race as Republicans and Democrats vie for control of Congress.

  • The winner of the North Carolina Senate race will help determine which party controls the chamber and whether or not President Biden can achieve his priorities in the final year of his first term.

By the numbers:

  • 55% of Beasley’s campaign donations came from out-of-state donors.
  • 34% of Budd’s campaign donations came from out-of-state donors.

Yes, but: This money does not take into account contributions to Budd and Beasley by political action committees or other candidates.

  • It also does not include outside groups that spend on advertising to influence the election.
