Local grandmother claims her granddaughter was scratched at Metro Atlanta daycare – WSB-TV Channel 2

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A local grandmother wants answers after saying her granddaughter was injured at a local daycare. A photo showed the scratches on the 3-year-old’s neck.

“It pissed me off. I’ll be honest. It pissed me off, it really did,” Tamika Saffo said.

Saffo said it was the most common reaction of any grandmother, especially when it came to your grandchild.

“I leaned her on her side and it was like scratches on the side of her neck,” she said.

Saffo said she saw these scratches on her 3-year-old granddaughter McKenzie’s neck when she picked her up from Forest Park daycare: “I asked the teacher, only two of them, what happened to his neck? The older teacher was like, I don’t know. I do not know.”

Saffo said she asked other staff and no one had an answer, so she called the police.

“The young teacher said McKenzie got into an argument with another student. Briana said “Why didn’t you call me”, they just said “I don’t know”. You’ve all waited a whole hour, to sit here and say that McKenzie had a fight with another kid. I do not believe it.

Channel 2’s Larry Spruill contacted Clayton County Head Start. A spokesperson said the daycare is investigating what happened. Meanwhile, Saffo said she asked for an incident report and to watch the video, but she said the daycare was evasive.

“Two nurses told me these are adult scratches. Two different nurses told me. She questioned McKenzie and asked if a small person did this or if a large person did this. McKenzie said a great person,” Saffo said.

Saffo said, “It hurts, knowing your baby is going through something like this, when she’s supposed to be safe.”

Clayton County police said they are looking into the situation, but have not filed any criminal charges. The family said they are pursuing legal action.
