Kewaunee County woman charged with OWI after crashing into barn, saved by ‘good Samaritan’

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) – A Manitowoc County man came to the aid of a Kewaunee County woman in a burning vehicle, which crashed into a nearby barn after driving off the road.

According to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, in the early morning hours of April 26, a vehicle crashed into a barn in Two Creeks Township. Officials say a 21-year-old Kewaunee County woman was driving on STH 42 when her vehicle left the road and entered a ditch.

The vehicle then hit a culvert and flew away. After the vehicle allegedly slammed into a nearby barn, it burst into flames.

A 41-year-old Manitowoc County man reportedly ran towards the crash and pulled the woman out of the vehicle. Authorities say the man’s action prevented any further injuries from occurring.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in the vehicle and the barn. The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other person or animal was injured.

The driver was subsequently charged with: first offense of driving while intoxicated.
