There are entry requirements – and even an NFT-based dress code – that users must meet to enter Decentraland’s casino.

The winnings are real – Decentraland has raked in nearly $8 million in just three months from some unlucky metaplayers – but unlike a real casino, traditional currency won’t cut it.

ICE is the in-game cryptocurrency and it is measured in “chips”.

Users receive chips based on the number of wearable NFTs their avatar is equipped with.

A user’s ICE handle will increase for completing challenges, such as playing a certain number of hands or excelling in games and dominating the leaderboards.

Decentraland’s casino has taken the wheel of traffic.

About 30% of Decentraland’s daily visitors are there to try their luck and place bets.

“At any given time, we have over 1,000 players playing poker,” Miles Anthony, founder of Decentraland Games, told CoinDesk.

“It doesn’t sound like a lot of users, but as far as the open metaverse goes, it’s pretty substantial given that the main problem with metaverses right now is that they’re empty,” Anthony added.

Gambling, virtual or traditional reality, is on the rise, with New York State taking $3.1 billion in action just months after legalizing online betting.

The casino is the latest adoption of a real-world activity becoming actionable in the metaverse.

Interested gamers do not need a VR headset, although it is recommended to enjoy the full experience.
