Beginners and pros alike step out for Go Skateboarding Day in Long Beach – Press Telegram
Take a plank and hit the sidewalk.
A few hundred skaters gathered at the skate park of the Bixby Park Community Center on Monday, June 21 to participate in the Go Skateboarding Day festivities.
The annual event, originating in Southern California, was established by the International Association of Skateboarding Societies in 2004 as a day to invite fans and novices to get out and skate on the nearest practicable surface.
The event has grown in popularity over its nearly two decades, with notable skateboard brands hosting community workshops and board giveaways across the country.
For many, this year’s celebration was also a first time back in a crowded setting with no face masks or social distancing in the wake of the waning coronavirus pandemic.
“I love this vacation,” said Dale O’Berg, 23, a Long Beach resident and avid skater. “It’s good to start the summer strong too. We couldn’t really do something like this last year.
