A deminer shooter on vaccine development has appeared on Itch.io
Do you sometimes wish you could erase COVID-19? Well, it will be a multi-year process, which will require years of dedicated cooperation from countries around the world. Until then you can play Metavaxx, an arcade style shooter where you will walk around a body at the cellular level and develop the ultimate vaccine. It’s a weapon (and a game) really suited to the present day.
We have this and more in Cool WIP, Polygon’s weekly roundup of eye-catching clips and screenshots of work in progress. Every week, Polygon staff scour the internet and highlight eye-catching games, especially those that haven’t yet been completed. This is a sample of the most promising projects at all stages of development.
This week is filled with projects that are one step closer to being completed. We have a skate game; a 3D platform game where you will dive from shadow to shadow; a peaceful survival game; and a wizarding puzzle. Read on to find out more about all of the wonderful games in this week’s Roundup.
Fight diseases with this shooter
Metavaxx is a Yummy Punkcake arcade style game. The developers describe it as a “minesweeper” where you form a vaccine. To win each level, you will have to hunt down and destroy all infected cells. The game is finished, but we’re including it here because it’s part of an ongoing project where the studio is releasing one game per month through a Patreon subscription. You can also grab it now through the game page.
A platform game when you dive into the shadows
Dive from shadow to shadow in the 3D platform game, SCHIM. A short clips shows a small frog-like creature leaping from shadow to shadow as if it were pools of water. The art style features a simple yet elegant line art. It is created by Ewoud van der Werf and there is no release date, but you can follow updates on their Twitter account.
Another skate game? Another skateboard game!
As long as we keep seeing cool skate games (and as long as people continue to get excited about skate games), we’ll keep writing about them. This week we have The ramp. This Hyperparadise game is touted as a “digital toy for skateboarding enthusiasts”. You can check out a gameplay clip below, but you can get the gist of it pretty quickly. It basically looks like a stripped skate game. It’s just your character and a ramp. Also, the clip features sweet beats if that’s your jam. The game is slated for release on Steam on August 3.
‼ ️My minimalist skateboarding game THE RAMP is coming to Steam on August 3rd! ️
100% pure flux, no extra fluff.

A survival game that’s peaceful
Usually survival games evoke the stress and intensity that comes with fending for yourself in an unfamiliar environment. Blue green, on the other hand, seems calm and peaceful. Instead of fighting the elements, this clip shows a figure cultivating a garden. Throughout the game, you will be able to meet creatures in a vast underwater landscape and experience its watercolor aspect. It is currently under development by Moebial and is expected to launch in fall 2021.
A witch with neon vibrations
This witchcraft adventure game turns the color up. Created by Mythic Owl, The Odyssey of Harmony looks like a 3d puzzle game where you will organize pieces and miniature cities, tile by tile. This small gif shows how well the neon vaporware aesthetic matches the low-poly look. You can check out their trailer here if you want to see the gameplay and the game scheduled for launch in 2021.
